Set Upon
Here’s a thought for the day …
Psalm 91:14 – “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him”
So much here to meditate on. God speaking to us says that I will deliver him that SETS HIS LOVE UPON ME. What does it mean to set your love upon God?
I’m sitting here drinking a cup of coffee as I’m writing this. I love a good cup of coffee first thing in the morning. I’ve set my coffee mug UP and ON the table beside me. I trust it will hold the cup and not drop it. I trust it will keep it from spilling. In a grand sense, I trust it will hold that which I value. In the same light, I can trust that when I set my love upon God, He can hold it, value it and protect it.
We all have the capacity to love. And without even knowing it, we can give many different things our love. People, hobbies, things, philosophies, dreams, work, etc. And trust is the traveling companion of love. But the Lord says for those who “set their love UPON Me, it opens the door for me to deliver (protect) them. God is, and has always been, drawn to faith (trust + action) and genuine affection. And the 3 S’s (sin, self and Satan) always look to steal our love away from our Heavenly Father. Who or what is the true object of your affection? Really think about that for a minute.
Can I encourage you today to spend some time setting your love upon Him? Get up, get away and get real with God. Tell Him that you love Him. Admit to Him what tries to steal your love. Ask for deliverance and strength. You see, He won’t make you love Him, but He will pursue you in hopes that you will. And what joy and peace there is for those who respond with love.
Like a parent whose young child comes and seeks comfort in their arms in times of trouble or fear, so does God long for us to run to Him and seek, not only protection, but affection in Him.
Let Him deliver your from fear today. Let Him deliver you from hopelessness today. Let Him deliver you from despair today. Set your love upon Him and embrace His goodness.
Beautiful! I love this Psalm and especially 91:1 with special meaning for another time of uncertainty. Thank you.
