Recognizing Jesus - Part I

I don't get star struck very easily.  I don't know why ... I just don't!  I've met a few celebrities in my life, but I just don't get star struck.  (Okay ... maybe New Orleans Saints football players, but that is an entirely different matter.)  Once, while working at a movie theater in New Orleans, I served Susan Sarandon popcorn and a Coke.  (I think I even suggestively sold her on up-sizing her popcorn and drink to larges so she could take advantage of free refills for only $.50 more!  I should have been a celebrity for that one!)  Anyway, I had NO IDEA who she was ... not even the slightest clue.  After she left my register, my co-workers started asking me if I realized who I just overcharged for popcorn and high-fructose corn syrup.  Again ... NO IDEA!  When they mentioned that it was Sissy Spacek, you can imagine my reaction ... STILL NO IDEA!  (Caution ... the next sentence will cause me to date myself.)  Apparently they were shooting the movie "JFK" in town, and she decided to take a break and come catch a flick.  Worse than the fact that no one appreciated my suggestive selling, was the fact that I was oblivious to who she was.  Worse yet, my co-workers just couldn't believe it and mocked my pop culture ignorance.  Later, I did redeem myself by spotting Tom Cruise in the Lobby, despite his aviator glasses and baseball cap pulled way down low.  (Note to famous people ... wearing sunglasses indoors usually draws attention to you, not away from you.  Wearing a suit that perfectly matches the wallpaper of the Lobby ... that would be genius!)  But that's another story for another blog.  (However it should be noted, he is much shorter in person than on a 25' movie screen.  Just saying!)  I do take some comfort in not being alone in missing out on opportunities to meet famous people.  (Note to reader ... here comes the clever transition from modern times to biblical times!)  There's a story in Luke 24 about two people who completely missed the encounter of their lives!
To be continued ...
